The summer of Hogaak continued at GP Las Vegas. Simon Nielson defeated Zhivko Nedelchev in a Hogaak mirror to claim the championship. Nielson played in the finals of GP Birmingham last week only to lose, but this weekend he took home the trophy.
Over 2000 players descended on Vegas to play in the main event. On Day 1, 10% of the metagame was Hogaark. Day 2 saw 20% of the players that advanced playing Hogaak. The Top 8 featured five Hogaark decks. Clearly, Hogaak dominants Modern.
On Monday, Wizards will announce changes to the banned and restricted list. The speculation is that Hogaak will get banned because of how it has warped the metagame.
